Activities of Holland-based online booking site booking.com in Turkey have been halted.
Representatives of booking.com said they would take it to the court of appeals.
The court ruled precautionary halt of the website in the lawsuit commenced by the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) in an effort to prevent unfair competition against the member travel agencies.
The execution was put in effect as of today (March 30). The users from Turkey can book abroad hotels, and those who use VPN or access the website from abroad can book the hotels in Turkey.
Booking.com was fined 2,543,992,85 TL (650,000 Euros) by the Presidency of the Turkish Competition Authority due to its practices against competition, the TÜRSAB noted. (NV/TK)
