In the suit brought to annul the Article No. 124 in Turkish Civil Code (TMK) allowing child marriage claiming the child marriage conflicts articles of 5, 10, 17, 41 of the international agreements of which Turkey is a party as well, the court has referred the relevant article to the Constitutional Court (AYM).
In the second hearing of the trial held today (April 29), Ankara 10th Family Court President saying “We also are of the opinion that the child marriages conflict the constitution” Agendaized the request of TMK to send the Article No. 124 to the AYM, according to Agenda Child Association.
The association emphasized that the decision is an acquisition in terms of child rights and expressed its expectation that AYM’s verdict will strengthen this acquisition.
