Three academics from Sakarya University signing Academics for Peace Initiative’s declaration have been released.
Investigation has been launched into two research research assistants and one PhD student on charges of “Insulting Turkish nation, State of Turkish Republic, and state’s institutes and organs” and “Propagandizing terror organization”.
While the research assistants summoned for testimony have been released after their testimonies were taken, the PhD student has been taken to Sakarya from Urfa.
A student was brought to court
Attorney Elvan Olkun informing bianet said the PhD student has been released after testifying to prosecutor for signing Academics for Peace Initiative, but brought into court because of his Facebook posts.
Olkun stated that the student was released on judicial control over that charge this morning.
Erdoğan had pointed them as a target
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claiming the declaration was written in “PKK jargon” used expressions such as “ignorant”, “dark”, “crappy co-called intellectuals”, “half-portion intellectuals” referring to the academics.
Erdoğan had also called university administrations and jurisprudence for duty.
