The court has ruled of blocking 92 web connections including 27 news sites of which two are bianet articles that “17 MSGSÜ Students Taken into Custody Released” and “Mimar Sinan Students Detained” upon request of Assist. Prof. Dr. Esra Keskinkılıç teaching Ottoman language at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
There is even Twitter address of People’s Republican Party (CHP) Hatay MP, Hilmi Yarayıcı among the addresses that Keskinkılıç wants to have blocked.
Nevertheless, even Turkish courts rule censor, a URL address belonging to Twitter can be blocked only by Twitter.
Prof. Akdeniz: Judge’s grave mistake
Prof. Dr. Yaman Akdeniz from İstanbul Bilgi University, Faculty of Law speaking to bianet has interpreted the ruling as “A grave mistake for the judge”.
“The judges deciding censors by copy-paste method every day, rule without regard to the content of the applications, without evaluating it”, added Akdeniz.
25 students were taken into custody
The reports which are requested to be blocked are related to detention of the 25 MSGSÜ students.
The attorneys had said the students were taken into custody upon Keskinkılıç’s complaint. The attorneys had asked the students of their boycotts against Keskinkılıç at police interrogation
She was protested
Keskinkılıç had earlier been protested by students. The students alleging the academics said to a laughing woman student, “A woman cannot laugh like that. I suppose you’ve forgotten where you are now” had staged protest.
According to Habertürk’s news on November 25, 2014 Keskinkılıç had refuted the claims. It was reported that Keskinkılıç filed a complaint over lack of life safety. (EA/TK)
