The Council of Higher Education has cancelled the work permit of Boğaziçi University academic member Assist. Prof. Dr. Noémi Levy-Aksu.
Levy-Aksu told bianet her contract, which was renewed by YÖK’s approval, was cancelled by the YÖK’s ruling dated February 22. Work permit of Prof. Dr. Abbas Vali, who had resigned from the university, was cancelled via the same notice.
Remarking that YÖK’s decision was related to her being a signatory of the declaration entitled “We Will not be a Party to This Crime” issued by the Academics for Peace, Levy-Aksu said, “People are unjustly sacked in many places. Mine is a piece of this wave and we will continue to stand against it”.
Hearing of the decision in London, Levy-Aksu noted she will return to Turkey and fight against the decision.
312 signatory academics have been discharged
In total 4,811 academics from 112 universities have been discharged via five Statutory Decrees issued under the State of Emergency. Of these academics, 58 were returned to their duties via another decree. The number of signatories among the discharged are 312. (BK/TK)
