Architectural historian Dr. Yavuz Sezer, an academic from the Faculty of Architecture of İstanbul Bilgi University, lost his life due to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) yesterday (March 24). 41-year-old Sezer's mother also lost her life due to COVID-19 at hospital a day before her son's passing.
The following message has been shared on the official website of the university about the passing of Dr. Sezer: "We are deeply saddened by the untimely loss of our dear professor, Dr. Yavuz Sezer. The Bilgi family will always remember Dr. Sezer with love and respect. We extend our condolences to his family, students and all loved ones."
The university's Faculty of Architecture has also shared a message of condolence on its Facebook page, announcing that both Dr. Yavuz Sezer and his mother have lost their lives due to coronavirus.
History Foundation (Tarih Vakfı) has also expressed its sadness for the loss of Dr. Sezer, extending condolences to his relatives and loved ones.
About Yavuz Sezer
He was working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture of İstanbul Bilgi University. He did his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with his thesis "18th Century Ottoman Libraries."
He graduated from Boğaziçi University Department of History in 2002. He did his MA at the same department and university in 2005. He worked at Boğaziçi University and Koç University afterwards.
