8 female workers died in a company van during the flood in Istanbul in early September this year. The first hearing of the trial regarding the incident was held before the Bakırköy 4th High Criminal Court on Thursday (17 December).
The court decided for the acquittal of Pameks Textile company owner Cevdet Karahasanoğlu and the company's administrative supervisor Seyit Göncük. Un-detained defendant and busdriver Mehmet Oğuz appeared at court as well.
On 9 September, the van with workers from the textile workshop got trapped in the flood in the industrial district of İkitelli. The van had not been suitable for the transportation of passengers. It was a closed van designed to carry goods. All 8 female workers drowned since they were not able to escape the water that was gushing in.
