The Justice and Development Party (AKP) was covered for 354 hours whereas the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) wasn’t covered at all by eight private TV channels including mainstream CNN Türk, Habertürk TV and NTV during May (April 30 - June3). During the same period, main opposition party Republican People’s Party (CHP) was covered for 79 hours and 9 minutes; Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) for 8 hours and 34 minutes; İYİ Party for 5 hours and 20 minutes; Felicity Party for 2 hours and 23 minutes; Great Unity Party (BBP) for 1 hour and 30 minutes; HÜDA-PAR for 1 hour and 7 minutes; Homeland Party for 1 hour and 5 minutes.
According to the study conducted by CHP’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) members İsmet Demirdöğen and İlhan Taşçı, TGRT Haber (TGRT News), Kanal 24, TV NET, ÜLKE TV and Akit TV covered none of the opposition parties.
“Even the fundamental rights are prevented”
RTÜK member Demirdöğen said, “There is no need to talk about the embargo placed on the opposition, you already see it. Even the fundamental rights in the European Convention on Human Rights are prevented”. (ŞA/TK)
