Detained in house raids on June 26 as part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), eight of 16 people have been arrested.
Referred to the judjeship of peace on duty by the prosecutor's office to be arrested on charge of "membership of an organization," Fatma Bülbül, Berdan Acun, Adem Firik, Velat Esin, Aytaç Duymuş, Ömer Baran, Zekiye Yılmaz and Aynur Aktar have been released on probation.
As reported by the Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Ayten Tekeş, Arin Zümrüt, Rojda Barış, Nesrin Şanlı, Piran Başkurt, Hüseyin Kaya, Mehmet Şengül and Ümran Baturay have been arrested by the judgeship.
What happened?
An investigation was launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office based on the information and documents seized during house raids targeting the DTK on October 9, 2018. As part of this investigation, warrants for detention were issued against 43 people and houses were raided.
As part of this Diyarbakır-based investigation, 43 people in total were detained in İzmir, İstanbul, Adana, Şırnak, Batman and Van on June 26. Among the detained were also dismissed Batman Co-Mayor Mehmet Demir, Silvan Co-Mayor Naşide Toprak as well as executives from the DTK, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Rosa Women's Association and Democratic Regions Party (DBP).
