50 defendants (with 23 jailed) stood trial for the 2nd KCK trial in Istanbul yesterday. While the majority of defendants were lawyers, the court released 7 advocates pending a trial.
Held in the Penalty Execution Institutions Campus in Istanbul’s far Silivri district, Istanbul 16th High Criminal Court ordered the release of Serkan Akbaş, Mizgin Irgat, Mehmet Ayata, Mensur Işık, Şakir Demir, Servet Demir and Mehmet Deniz Büyük pending a trial.
The court ruled that it does no longer need to hear İrfan Dündar, as he previously testified against the advocates and then changed his testimony.
The court will announce its decision on hearing PKK Abdullah Öcalan as witness later on. The next hearing was scheduled to September 17. (EA/BM)
