Seven academics five of whom are professors from Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) have been arrested as part of an investigation launched into “Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ)”.
The academics were arrested on charge of “Being a member of an armed organization”, according to a report by state-run Anadolu Agency.
Detention warrants were issued for 103 academics on November 18 and 77 academics were detained, 14 of them were arrested on December 6.
Arrest for seven of 39 suspects
According to AA’s report, 39 people, who were detained within the scope of the investigation carried by prosecutor Mehmet Şenay Baygın from İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Anti-Terror and Organized Crime Control Bureau, testified after brought to court.
The prosecutor’s office sent 22 suspects to judgeship for arrest on charge of “Being a member of an armed organization” and referred 17 to judgeship demanding release on probation.
İstanbul 8th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty ruled arrest of the seven academics and release of the 32 on probation. International travel ban was imposed on the released ones. (BK/TK)
