The Fancy Women Bike Ride, which is organized to emphasize the importance of bicycles' becoming a part of daily life, was held for the sixth time yesterday (September 23).
The event took place simultaneously in several districts and cities in Turkey with the participation of almost 15 thousand women.
With the aim of drawing attention to the the fact that there are more women cyclists on the road and to raise awareness in that regard, the ride was held in more than 60 districts and cities in Turkey such as Ankara, İzmir, İstanbul, Isparta, Giresun, Diyarbakır, Konya, Kırıkkale and Malatya as well as in Milano, Switzerland and Cologne.
In İstanbul, almost 350 women met at Caddebostan Coast and rode their bicycles to Özgürlük Park in Göztepe. The KLM Royal Dutch Airlines provided bike support to the Fancy Women Bike Ride.
About the Fancy Women Bike Ride
The first Fancy Women Bike Ride was organized in the district of Alsancak in İzmir in 2013 on the occasion of World Car Free Day.
In 2015, it was organized in 10 cities; in 2016, in 27 cities; and in 2017, in 50 cities. In the manifest of the event, it has been stated:
"The roads of the cities will not smell of exhaust fumes, but of perfumes. Get your hair done, wear your perfume, wear your fashionista dress, put on your shawl, paint your nails and lips, wear your high-heeled shoes; will you only adorn yourself? Noooo... Adorn your bike as well and hit the road..."
