İstanbul Security Directorate has announced that 66 people who attempted to march to Taksim to celebrate May 1 Labor Day in Taksim, İstanbul have been detained.
Police have intervened in People's Liberation Party members who were in an effort to march towards Taksim from Beşiktaş.
56 people have been detained in Beşiktaş; six in Maltepe and two in Şişli.
15 people in the group have been taken into custody.
Following the intervention, a group of 20 people attempting to gather at Barbaros Avenue to go to Taksim have been detained, increasing the number of detainees to 35.
The governorship rejected application for Taksim
Labor and occupational organizations declared that May 1 Labor Day would be celebrated in Maltepe, İstanbul.
In the statement it was expressed that an application was submitted to İstanbul Governorship for the celebrations to be held at Taksim square but it was rejected by the governorship. (AS/TK)
