‘63 health workers died of COVID-19 in November’

Releasing a brief statement yesterday (November 6), the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) announced that 63 healthcare workers died of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Turkey in November 2020.

"We are dying; we lost 63 healthcare workers, 17 of whom were physicians, due to the COVID-19 in November," the TTB said on Twitter.

In another tweet, the TTB reiterated its call for the COVID-19 to be recognized as an occupational disease for health workers. "Recognize COVID-19 as an occupational disease. Abandon this attitude of disregarding health laborers and pay heed to their requests," said the TTB.

One health worker died in Diyarbakır

On the other side, most recently, health worker Mehmet Aslan lost his life due to the COVID-19 in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

Diyarbakır Medical Chamber has said on Twitter, "We have lost Mehmet Aslan, who was working in the Dialysis Department of Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital, due to COVID-19. We extend our condolences to his family and the entire community of healthcare."

Diyarbakır Medical Chamber Chair Elif Turan has also indicated that the number of healthcare workers who have so far lost their lives due to the coronavirus has increased to 16 in Diyarbakır.
