The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey has released a written statement about forest fires.
"5,469-hectare forestland has been damaged in forest fires across Turkey this year. The greatest damage occurred with the boundaries of İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry", the Ministry has indicated.
It has also been stated that the Directorate General of Forestry (OGM) teams have intervened in 1,964 forest fires since January 1, 2019.
Greatest damage in the Aegean
The Ministry has also informed that "the greatest damage throughout the country occurred within the boundaries of İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry", comprising Aegean provinces of İzmir Aydın and Denizli.
"While 223 fires broke out in this region, a total of 47-hectare land has been damaged", the Ministry has indicated further.

Referring to the areas damaged in forest fires, the Ministry has informed that while a ground fire erupted in 145-hectare forestland within the boundaries of İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry, 902 hectare was affected by top fires.
According to the Ministry, the second greatest damage occurred within the boundaries of Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry, which comprises the Mediterranean provinces of Muğla, Aydın and Denizli.
Referring to the forestland damaged by forest fires in this region, the Ministry has also informed that a total of 948 hectare forestland has been damaged by 272-hectare ground fires and 676-hectare top fires. (TP/SD)
