Workers, who work at the construction site of the 3rd Airport in İstanbul, staged a protest today (September 25) after their service vehicles arrived late and they had to wait for the busses under the pouring rain.
The Construction Workers Union (İnşaat-İş) posted a statement on its official Twitter account and announced that the protest was participated by almost 400 workers and four workers have been taken into custody after the intervention of the security forces.
In the wake of a service vehicle accident that happened on September 12 and injured 17 workers, workers of the 3rd Airport organized a protest on September 14. After an operation conducted on September 15, 405 workers were detained. On September 19, 24 workers were arrested.
"We are expecting an operation"
The following message was shared on Twitter by İnşaat-İş:
"Our worker friends informed us that a protest was staged at the 3rd Airport this morning and four workers have been detained. Our friends conveyed the following information:
'Hello, this morning, almost 400 of our friends revolted due to the long service vehicle lines and the late arrival of the services.
'The protest continued with whistles and shouts. A high number of riot police and gendarmerie forces rushed to the site again. Police officers took the pictures of the worker friends.
'Four of our worker friends are currently held in custody. We are expecting an effective and oppressive operation tonight. The course of events points to it.'" (EKN/SD)
