According to the data of TUİK, 273,571 children came or were brought to the security units in 2013.
The number in 2012 was 245,080.
This means that number of children came or brought to the security units increased by 11.6 percent from 2012 to 2013.
According to the data of 2013, 57.9 percent of these children are in the age group of 15-17, 25 percent of them are in the age group of 12-14, and 17 percent of them are under 11.
68.6 percent of children are boys and 31,4 percent are girls.
Children forced to commit a crime
It is registered that number of children forced to commit a crime is 115,439. In contrast to 2012, there is an increase by 14.5 percent.
Assault is imputed to 42,540 children, theft to 33,038 of them, using, buying, or selling drugs or stimulant to 10,504, damaging property to 4269, and threatening to 4020 children.
There are children who brought to security units under the claim that they committed a crime defined in law and 88,7 percent of them are boys and 11,3 percent girls.
Drug usage
According to TUİK, it is determined that 41,9 percent of children, brought to security units for for they were forced to commit a crime, are drug users.
It is stated that 32,849 of them smoke cigarettes, 4439 of them smoke marijuana, 3046 smoke both cigarettes and marijuana, and 2970 smoke cigarettes and consume alcohol. (YY/MUY/BM)
