According to the unofficial results of the 27th Term Presidential Elections, two academics from Academics for Peace have become MPs.
Of the MP candidates of the Republican People's Party (CHP), there were two academics from Academics for Peace nominated as MP candidates and among the MP candidates of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), there were six academics from Academics for Peace nominated as MP candidates.
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ö. Kaboğlu, who was discharged from the Law School of Marmara University, will serve as the MP of the CHP and Prof. Dr. Erol Katırcıoğlu, who was discharged from the School of Economics of Marmara University, will serve as the MP of the HDP.
Discharged academics in parliament
Two other academics who were discharged from their posts at universities as per the Statutory Decrees issued after the declaration of the State of Emergency on July 20, 2016 have also qualified to serve as the MPs of the CHP and HDP in the 27th Parliament of Turkey.
The Co-Chair of the HDP, Sezai Temelli, who was discharged from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at İstanbul University as per the Statutory Decree no. 675, has been elected as the Van MP of the HDP.
Prof. Dr. Cihangir İslam, who was discharged from the Medical School of Caucasus University as per the Statutory Decree no. 686, has also qualified to serve as the İstanbul MP of the CHP.
İbrahim Kaboğlu, CHP
İstanbul, 1st Region
İbrahim Kaboğlu was dismissed by Statutory Decree no. 686 dated February 7, 2017 while he was serving as the Head of the Department of Constitutional Law at Marmara University.
He is one of the academics who have been charged with "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" for having signed the declaration entitled "We will not be a party to this crime" prepared by the Academics for Peace.
Erol Katırcıoğlu, HDP
İstanbul, 1st Region
Erol Katırcıoğlu was retired from the Faculty of Economics at Marmara University.
He is also one of the academics who have been tried for having signed the declaration entitled "We will not be a party to this crime" prepared by the Academics for Peace.
Sezai Temelli, HDP
Van
Sezai Temelli was discharged from the Faculty of Political Sciences, where he had worked for 35 years, as per the Statutory Decree no. 675.
Temelli was elected as the Co-Chair of the HDP together with Pervin Buldan at the party convention on February 11, 2018.
Cihangir İslam, CHP
İstanbul, 3rd Region
Cihangir İslam was discharged from the Medical School of Caucasus University as per the Statutory Decree no. 686. (BK/SD)
