The Turkish Pit Coal Corporation (TTK) in Zonguldak opened job slots for 115 mine workers, and 4,000 candidates applied.
Although hundreds of workers died in Soma, there is a 30 per cent increase in application volume compared to last year due to unemployment.
The corporation subjected applicants to applied tests. The applicants carried 4-meter mine poles, and showed in application how they use a pick, spade, and ax. 115 people will start work in June following evaluation decisions.
Turkey has an estimate of 120,000 mineworkers in total. 49,000 miners working in coal and lignite mines account for around 40 percent of this sum. (ÇT/PU/BM)
