As part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a series of house raids were conducted in Turkey's eastern and southeastern provinces of Diyarbakır, Hakkari and Elazığ upon detention warrants issued against 93 people.
While the operation, which was supported by air security forces and special forces, focussed on the districts of Yenişehir, Bağlar, Kayapınar, Sur, Dicle, Ergani, Çermik, Çüngüş, Lice, Hani, Hazro and Kocaköy in Diyarbakır, 74 people were detained, including seven neighborhood heads (mukhtars).
38 of the 74 people, who were referred to courthouse, have been detained. The other 36 people have been released on probation. An international travel ban has been imposed on the released.
"An operation against those aiding the organization"
The Governorship of Diyarbakır has released a written statement and announced that the operations have been directed against "the ones who acted together with the members of the (terrorist) organization, propagandized for the organization, recruited members for the organization, facilitated the accomodation of the organization members in shelters, provided financial sources to the organization and transferred information between the organization members."
