It has been decided that 35% of the budget spared for the Ministry of National Education (MEB) be allocated to General Directorate of Religious Education. In this way, the allocation shared for “religious education” has increased by 68% compared to the previous year.
It was also agreed on that 96% of the religious education budget that amounts to 7% of the total MEB budget be used for Religious Vocational High School.
CHP’s Çakırözer: Is it normal?
Republican People’s Party (CHP) Eskişehir MP Utku Çakırözer said, “Compared with other general directorates, is it normal to spare 35% of the budget to the General Directorate of Religious Education?
HDP’s Paylan: We want a democratic, secular education
Criticizing the male dominance in bureaucracy, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İstanbul MP Garo Paylan said: “We are in Turkey of 2017. Let me tell you this clearly. Just look Mr. Minister, look at the bureaucracy behind you. You’ve come with a bureaucracy of male only. In this regard, you definitely don’t have a Ministry caring gender equality.
“So, what is our dream? [Our dream is a] democratic, secular, scientific and equalitarian education. Can you say with self-confidence that ‘Our ministry is a democratic ministry in all its practices’?” (PT/TK)
