330 academics from 48 universities were discharged by the new statutory decree issued yesterday (February 7) evening under the State of Emergency.
The largest number of discharges were at Ankara University (78), Anadolu University (28), Yıldız Technical University (27) and Marmara University (23).
The number of academics dismissed in the five statutory decrees issued until today has reached 4811. 16 of these were given back their positions by a later Statutory Decree.
The number of discharged academics according to their universities are as follows:
Abant İzzet Baysal University (5), Adıyaman University (3), Adnan Menderes University (3) , Afyon Kocatepe University (1), Ahi Evran University (2), Amasya University (3), Anadolu University (28), Ankara University (72), Atatürk University (1), Balıkesir University (1), Beykent University (3), Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University (7), Bingöl University (1), Bozok University (15), Cumhuriyet University (13), Çukurova University (3), Doğuş University (2), Dumlupınar University (22), Erciyes University (7), Erzincan University (1), Eskişehir Osmangazi University (16), Gazi University (2), Gebze Teknik University (1), Giresun University (3), Hakkari University (2), Iğdır University (1), İstanbul Ayvansaray University (1), İstanbul Bilim University (2), İstanbul Medeniyet University (3), İstanbul University (1), İstanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University (1), Kafkas University (11), Karadeniz Teknik University (1), Kırıkkale University (1), Kilis 7 Aralık University (2), Kocaeli University (1), Marmara University (23), Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University (3), Mustafa Kemal University (1), Namık Kemal University (1), Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University (1), Ordu University (1), Pamukkale University (21), Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University (2), Trakya University (3), Uludağ University (2), Uşak University (2), Yıldız Teknik University (27).
Those who resigned or were dismissed were also discharged
Prof. Mine Gencel Bek who was also among the dismissed at Ankara University Faculty of Language, History and Geography had resigned on January 31, 2016 and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent Ünsaldı had already resigned on January 14, 2017.
Lecturer in Psychology Prof. Dr. Serdar M. Değirmencioğlu and lecturer Asst. Prof. Dr. Aslı Vatansever from Faculty of Science and Literature who already had their contracts terminated by Doğuş University were also discharged from public service.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Meral Camcı who was dismissed from her position due to a disciplinary investigation launched by İstanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University in February 2016 and was arrested for signing the "We will not be a party to this crime" declaration by the Academics For Peace was also discharged from public service.
Those already discharged though having their files referred to YÖK for examination
The commission which ran the investigation into the academics in Marmara University who had signed the aforementioned peace declaration had demanded "discharge of signees from public service" and the presidency of the university had approved the request and referred it to the Council for Higher Education (YÖK).
Some academics including Prof. Dr. Özdemir Aktan, Lecturer at Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kaboğlu from Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Yüksel Taşkın and Baran Alp Uncu from Faculty of Political Sciences and Uraz Aydın from Faculty of Communication were discharged from public service by the new statutory decree although they had their cases referred to the Council of Higher Education for examination.
