Platform for Protection and Preservation of Suriçi has called on the Government to withdraw the urgent expropriation decision.
The Platform for Protection and Preservation of Suriçi formed by 310 Organizations including Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, trade chambers and NGOs has made a statement on the urgent expropriation decision for Sur.
Violation of the right to property
Within the press statement held in the Southeast Journalists’ Association (GGC) it has been pointed out that the decision of urgent expropriation had violated the right to property guaranteed by the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
Speaking on behalf of the platform, President of the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ahmet Sayar has noted;
“ We should not forget that the confiscation of the real estates which are subjects to private property in our Sur and Yenişehir districts by the state from its citizens would cause enormous social and cultural devastation. We demand stepping back from this practice lacking legal justification”.
Sayar has also noted that they would take legal action for the nullification of the decision.
