Two sergeant majors and one gendarmerie senior noncommissioned officer have lost their lives as a result of an improvised explosive device, which was planted by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members, being exploded during an operation carried out in Turkey’s southeastern Dicle, Diyarbakır.
Sergeant Major Fatih Uysal will be interred in Antalya; Sergeant Major Kadir Çakı in Amasya and Senior Noncommissioned Officer Ümmet Ufacık in Konya.
Treatment of four injured continues
Diyarbakır Governorship issued a statement concerning the incident at around 11 p.m. yesterday (March 13) and stated that the incident occurred at around 2:15 p.m.
The governorship announced that two soldiers lost their lives on the scene at the moment of the explosion, five others were wounded, and of the wounded soldiers lost his life in Selahattin Eyyübi State Hospital where he was taken to for treatment. Treatment of the four injured continues.
Bodies of the three soldiers, who lost their lives in the explosion, are being sent to their hometowns today for funeral. (AS/TK)
