Working at the quarry of the subcontracting company undertaking the construction of Akçakale-Suruç beltway in Turkey's southeastern province of Urfa, Syrian worker Mahmut Mişo received an electric shock and lost his life.
The deceased body of Mişo was attempted to be taken to another construction site by the company officials; however, the family of the worker as well as other workers working at the same site with him objected. Amid these reactions, the officials abandoned the idea.
Another occupational homicide took place at the same construction site on August 16. Crashed by heavy construction equipment, 50-year-old İhsan Arslan and 27-year-old Semih Kaçmaz lost their lives.
As reported by Hasan T. from the Urfa-based urfanatik.com local news website, the Governor's Office of Urfa has taken action following these three occupational homicides that took place at the same site in a week.
The Office has announced that an investigation has been launched by the Suruç Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and three people have been taken into custody. While the detained are reportedly officials of the subcontructing company, the investigation is still ongoing. (HA/SD)
