The 24th gathering of the Justice Watch took place today (September 14) to support the arrested attorneys of Cumhuriyet daily.
The Journalists Outside Initiative, Republican People's Party (CHP) İstanbul MP Barış Yarkadaş, Progressive Legists Association (ÇHD) President Selçuk Kozağaçlı and Journalists' Association of Turkey (TGC) former President and Cumhuriyet columnist Orhan Erinç were among the supporters.
Reading out the statement for press, Banu Güven from the Journalists Outside Initiative said:
"Our friends and colleagues from Cumhuriyet daily are behind bars for working in a journalism institution and for telling and defending the truth" and added
"We be in solidarity with our friends.
"We will be in solidarity with the attorneys who also act in solidarity.
"Like we always say, 'This is our country, this heaven and hell are ours".
Yarkadaş: "Next hearing on September 25"
Reminding that the next hearing in Cumhuriyet trial would be held on September 25, Yarkadaş said:
"There will be two hearings that day. One of them will be in the US. Reza Zerrab will stand before judge and will give account in the US. And the other one will be here, in Çağlayan Court. Employees of Cumhuriyet daily will be here on that day. You decide! Will you stand by Reza or Cumhuriyet employees! Everyone should choose sides! We will be here and stand by Cumhuriyet employees on September 25. Those who want to support the thieves should go to the US, beside Reza. Those who want to defend rights, the law and justice may come here and stand with us". (ÇT/DG)
