Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) İzmir MP Atila Sertel has announced that 210 people lost their lives due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Turkey's Aegean province of İzmir in the 7-day period from November 11 to November 17, 2020.
Referring to Health Minister Fahrettin Koca and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Sertal has said, "Health Minister and the AKP government insist on lying to our people. Numbers don't lie, but people do. AKP government cannot manage the outbreak well, but they lie quite well."

210 people died in İzmir in 7 days
Referring to the number of COVID-19 deaths in İstanbul announced by İstanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu a few days ago, Sertel himself has also shared the number of COVID-19 deaths in İzmir:
November 11: 19 deaths; November 12: 34 deaths; November 13: 26 deaths; November 14: 23 deaths; November 15: 36 deaths; November 16, 21 deaths and November 17: 51 deaths - (210 COVID-19 deaths in İzmir on November 11-17, 2020).
According to Atila Sertel's statement, while 51 people lost their lives in İzmir due to COVID-19 on November 17, the official number announced for the entire country was 103. The rate of tests that turn out to be positive has also increased to around 30 percent, according to Sertel.

'It is nothing but deception'
Raising concerns over the discrepancy between the numbers, Atila Sertel has said, "When we look at the number of patients and deaths announced for Turkey as a whole, we see that the announced numbers are nothing but deception," adding that "the infection rate of the virus as well as its mortality rate are gradually increasing."
"The restrictions announced two days ago and confusing people even more are far from being measures. Those who deceive their people deceive themselves." (TP/SD)
