Three suspects who allegedly attacked journalist Levent Gültekin in İstanbul's Bakırköy district were taken into custody today (March 23).
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), three people were identified as part of the investigation conducted into the incident by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Having examined the surveillance cameras, security officers detained three suspects.
While the three suspects were first taken to the police department, they were referred to the Bakırköy Courthouse afterwards.
Giving their statements at the prosecutor's office, M.E.K and Ö.D. said that Levent Gültekin interfered because they were speaking in a loud voice and that was why the attack happened. They also said that they did not know Gültekin or the others involved in the incident.
All three suspects were referred to the Bakırköy Penal Judgeship of Peace on Duty with a request for their arrest.
While suspects M.E.K. and Ö.D. have been arrested on charge of "injury," M.A.D., who is younger than 18, has been released on probation.
