The recent death of two soldiers who served under the compulsory military service in Kırıkkale and Mardin resumed controversy in Turkey's barracks.
H.Ç., a Zonguldak-born private who was assigned to serve his compulsory military service in Kırıkkale High Security Prison, has allegedly committed suicide during his night shift, Radikal newspaper said. Officials stated that an investigation is underway and his body to be sent to Istanbul.
E.Y., a private who was serving his compulsory military service in Midyat district's Cevat Paşa barracks, has reportedly died by rifle fire while joking with M.S., a fellow private, CNNTürk said. Officials stated that an investigation is underway and his body to retrieved to a local hospital morgue.
On May 14 M.B., another private on compulsory drafting, has allegedly committed suicide at a barracks Uludere, Şırnak province. According to bianet's data, the number of private soldier suicides on compulsory drafting since 2002 rose to 971. (EKN/BM)
