Regarding the workplace murder that left 10 lift workers dead on Saturday night, 2 lift specialists detained by the police.
Yesterday, 8 were summoned and released after submitting their statements.
According to hurriyet.com.tr, two aforementioned detainees are employed at Geda Major Ltd. - the firm responsible for construction site's lift systems.
“Istanbul Prosecutor's Office also released a statement confirming the detentions. It added that "other suspects were being sought as well".
The statement also cited that an expert report has been drafted by a group of 3 mechanical engineers, 2 electric engineers, 1 civil engineer and 1 occupational safety expert.
It also denied the allegations that yesterday's summonings were related to detentions.
What did the lift firm say?
Geda-Majör Ltd. made the following statement yesterday:
"We are only responsible for the periodical inspections, repairs and demontages. However, the management of the elevators system is not within our contract. Our two expert staff are employed for the periodical maintenance service within the office hours according to their contract. We currently have no knowledge regarding the happening of an accident on Saturday night outside office hours. We are also expecting to see the results of formal investigation. (NV/BM)
