15 more people went on a death fast in prison today (May 10) with the demand that the isolation on Kurdistan Workers Party's (PKK) imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan be ended.
Starting a hunger strike with the same demand, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has been on the 184th day of her hunger strike. 11 days ago, on April 30, 15 other inmates, who had already been on a hunger strike in prison, started a death fast.
The hunger strikes initiated by Leyla Güven on November 8, 2018 have spread to prisons across the country and started to turn into death fasts.
After 15 prisoners who had been on an indefinite-irreversible hunger strike started a death fast on April 30, 15 other inmates followed suit today.
15 other inmates have gone on a death fast
The following inmates have gone on a death fast today:
Yaşar Cinbaş, Muhammed İnal, Diyadin Akdemir and Engin Kahraman in Kandıra Prison; İbrahim Doğan, Ahmet Emin Eren and Mustafa Taştan in Bolu Type F Prison; Senar Efe, Burhan Şık, Faysal Atak and Şefik Kayhan in Patnos Prison; Reşat Özdil in Tekirdağ No. 1 Prison; Zeki Bayhan and Yılmaz Yıldız in Tekirdağ No. 2 Prison; and Sait Öztürk in Van Prison.

The prisoners on a death fast since April 30 are as follows:
Aslı Doğan and Ardıl Çeşme in Gebze Women's Closed Prison; Zozan Çiçek, Şükran Aydın and Nesrin Akgül in Bakırköy Women's Closed Prison; Ahmet Topkaya, Ferhat Turgay, Abdulhalik Kaplan, Enver Dönmez and Ergin Akhan in Diyarbakır Type D Prison; İhsan Bulut, Özhan Ceyhan, Vedat Özağar, Erol Cengiz and Ahmet Anığı in Van High Security Prison.
