Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court convicted Ömer Mutlu to 13 years and 9 months of prison for taking down turkish flag located in the garden of 2nd Air Force Base in the southeastern district of Diyarbakır.
The incident took place on June 8, 2014 after police and military intervention against protestors who were contesting the construction of high-security military checkpoints in Lice district left two people dead.
Detained on August 9, 2014 in Lice, Ömer Mutlu has been arrested by a court.
On June 9, 2014, PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan commented on the incident to the delegation of the resolution process, saying that it was a provocation.
In the day that followed, several respect-to-flag walk were held with some of them turning into assaults against Kurds. (YY/BM)
