According to a report released by Worker Health and Work Security Assembly, at least 128 workers including 5 immigrants, 5 children and 10 women were killed from work-related injuries in November.
Among 10 women included Rukiye Şimşek (42), a house worker who fell to death as she was cleaning windows on 4th floor of a building in Istanbul.
Some of the highlights from the report are as follows:
The distribution of workplace mortalities according to sector listed as follows: Construction (31 with 23 due to falls), transportation (13), agriculture (18), textile/leather (13), trade (12) and mining (10).
* While traffic accidents left 49 workers dead, 35 were killed due to crushes and collapses and 26 died because of falls.
* While not listed as cause of death for labor sectors, Yılmaz Pehlivan, a leather worker, died on the job of lung cancer while working at a factory in Zeytinburnu district, Istanbul.
* On November 5, 7 textile workers died due to a traffic accident in Bozova district, Şanlıurfa.
* On November 7, 5 trade workers died due to a fire in Gaziantep. According to a preliminary report by Chamber of Electric Engineers, the building had no fire or emergency exits. It was also noted that it was not suitable for manifacture.
5 immigrant, 5 child workers
* Alim Koç (33), a teacher, committed suicide due to a 8 year long wait for post assignment. Alim marked the 37th case who suffered from capitalist education system.
* 4 workers from Syria (Hacı Mehmet Dolihammor, Bilal, Üveysi Derihamar, Vaisa Dail Hamiossa) and 1 worker from China (Qighu Li) died.
* The sectors and information on deceased child workers included: Orhan Sürer (13, construction, died in Diyarbakır province), Hasan Bakdur (16, agriculture, died in Şanlıurfa), Muharrem Dursun (14, retail, died in Gaziantep), Salih Eroğlu (17, retail, died in Gaziantep) and Gökhan Örüç (17, construction, died in Konya).
