12 people including Etkin News Agency (ETHA) editor İsminaz Temel and its reporter Havva Cuştan, and lawyers from the Law Bueau of the Oppressed Özlem Gümştaş and Sezin Uçar have been detained in an operation launched into socialists.
Those who were arrested
15 people who were detained on October 19 were taken to the prosecutor's office yesterday (October 25).
Sent to İstanbul 5th Criminal Judgeship of Peace, Özgen Sadet, the sister of Hatice Ezgi Sadet who lost her life in Suruç, Onur Binbir, Hünkar Yurtseven, İlhan Aslan and İsmail Geçkin, and İsminaz Temel, Havva Cuştan, Özlem Gümüştaş, Sezin Uçar, Erkan Kakça, Meral Tatar and Mazlum Demirtaş who were referred to İstanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace, were arrested.
Three people were released on probation
Nihat Göktaş, who joined hunger strikes in 1996 and 2000 and has "Wernicke Korsakoff Syndrome", Mehmet Aslan and Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP) member Ali Düzkün were released on probation.
Accusations are "attending funeral, demonstration, rally"
ETHA reported that charges of "being a member of an illegal organization" and "propagandizing for a terror organization" were pressed against Temel.
Working at ETHA as reporter since 2016, Cuştan was charged due to some of her coverages, funerals she attended and her social media posts.
Lawyer Sezin Uçar and Özlem Gümüştaş were charged with "being a member of an illegal organization" and "propagandizing for a terror organization" for attending medical forensic proceedings of their clients who lost their lives in Rojava.
Uçar and Gümüştaş had submitted a petition to the prosecutor's office four months ago to be deposed since their names were included in another investigation, yet the prosecutor didn't summon them. (EA/TK)
