12 figures including former İstanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu detained within the scope of investigations as to the July 15 coup attempt have been arrested for “being member of terrorist organization”.
The state-run Anadolu Agency has reported that of the 12, eight are governors, one is deputy governor and three are sub-governors.
Mutlu detained on July 26 is being accused of transferring 500,000 Turkish Lira (150,000 euro) at his Diyarbakır Governorship term sent for poor children to private teaching institutions linked with Fethullah Gülen.
Who is Hüseyin Avni Mutlu
Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, born in Rize has served as sub-Governor in Silopi district of Şırnak province between 1992-1994, Vice Governor of Şırnak between 1994-1997, sub-Governor in Eceabat district of Çanakkale between 1997-2002 and later as Vice Governor of Çanakkale for one year.
He was the sub-Governor of Bağcılar district of İstanbul between 2003-2005. Between 2005-2007 he was the Governor of Siirt and between 2007-2010 Governor of Diyarbakır. In 2010, he was assigned as Governor of İstanbul.
He was the Governor of İstanbul during Gezi Resistance. On September 15, 2014 he became the Central Governor* (ÇT/TK)
* “Center Governorship” is considered a passive mission and central governors have an office in Ministry of Interior where they only have a table and a seat and they have no active mission.
