11 Ordu City Platform members who want to prevent Ordu Municipality from filling the coast have been taken into custody.
Ordu had opposed the Black Sea Coast Road project and prevented the road construction in 1994.
"There is no project, they are creating a de facto situation"
Attorney Haluk Türkmen speaking to bianet has expressed that the construction has begun without any project, and that they filed a criminal complaint against it.
“There is no project, parliamentary decision, environmental project, no nothing at the moment. They are creating a de facto situation. They started filling via sub-contracted firm. People also wanted to prevent this. Police dispersed the people by force and detained 11 people.
“We don’t know either what is planned to be built on the coast. We would open it for discussion if we knew. We asked Municipality Town Planning Directorate, Ministry of Transportation Provincial Directorate whether there is a project. Including the municipality, they all said there is no project but only draft. We are reacting by exercising our democratic right”.
Ordu City Platform had set up tent on the coast on Monday. (NV)
