One sergeant major has lost his life in the armed conflict in the intersection of Çatak-Gürpınar-Edremit districts of Van.
Today (May 19) towards morning hours, soldiers have been dispatched to the scene where members of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members reportedly have planned to plant improvised explosive devices on the land road of Gürpınar-Edremit. The teams sent to the area have closed the road to traffic and launched a comprehensive operation.
An armed conflict has occurred between the security forces arriving with armoured vehicles and PKK members.
A sergeant major on duty in Gürpınar has lost his life, and the other soldier injured is still in treatment.
According to the statement of the General Staff, the two soldiers injured in the operations at around 5.30 a.m. have been delivered to the hospital yet the sergeant major has lost his life in the hospital despite all efforts. (YY/DG)
