President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is currently on his Gulf tour, visited Qatar yesterday following his stop in Saudi Arabia.
At the Lusail Palace in the capital city, Doha, Erdoğan held a meeting with Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The occasion also marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, and a joint statement was released to underscore the strength of their bilateral ties.
In the statement, the strategic partnership between Turkey and Qatar was hailed as highly fruitful, with both countries displaying alignment on various regional and international issues.
"The existing strategic partnership between Turkey and Qatar has proven to be fruitful at all levels, with both countries demonstrating similar approaches on many regional and international issues. Within this bilateral framework, the High Strategic Committee stands as one of the most concrete manifestations of the partnership, bringing together the two brotherly nations annually since 2015. Through this strategic committee, approximately 100 documents have been signed with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors and fields.
"In the economic and commercial realms, collaboration between the two countries has witnessed stable growth in recent years, both in terms of trade and investment volume. We sincerely aspire to further advance economic and commercial relations that serve the interests of both brotherly countries and their peoples.
"With regard to the unprecedented success of hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Turkey has provided valuable contributions to the tournament's success, extending support not only in security but also through its companies and experts in various fields, including contracting and hospitality.
"Guided by our strategic relations and bilateral cooperation in the political, diplomatic, economic, and commercial domains, and under the directives of our wise leaders from both countries, we are determined to continue our joint efforts to enhance bilateral relations for the benefit of both brotherly nations and their peoples by coordinating across various domains."
