As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic keeps people away from museums and art galleries, they have mostly turned to the Internet as a way of viewing the work of world famous artists.
Accordingly, Ken Bromley Art Supplies has set out to find out which artists were searched for the most in 2020 and who has been most popular in each country throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Then, the UK-based company has created a world map to show the world's most popular artists and a breakdown of the winners in each continent.
The data obtained by the company has revealed that Leonardo da Vinci is the world's most popular artist, winning in a total of 82 countries.
The top seven winning artists are as follows:
Leonardo da Vinci most Googled in 82 countries
Frida Kahlo in 29 countries
Van Gogh in 24 countries
Artemisia Gentileschi in 23 countries
Picasso in 18 countries
Banksy in 14 countries
Diego Velázquez in 2 countries
Leonardo da Vinci, best known for his Last Supper and Mona Lisa paintings, have won in 82 countries worldwide. The iconic Mexican feminist painter Frida Kahlo has come second winning in 29 countries, including Turkey, the United States (US), Brazil and Mexico, according to the map.
As for the methodology of the study, worldwide search data was analysed in February 2021 using Google Keyword planner. The top artist was found using search data for 2020 in each country for each artist.
However, not all countries had enough data to be featured, so the company has only included the countries with enough data to analyse.
