After the US Senate passed the resolution recognizing and commemorating the Armenian Genocide yesterday (December 12), US Ambassador to Turkey in Ankara David Satterfield has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey to inform him about Turkey's criticisms.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), addressing Ambassador Satterfield, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sedat Önal has voiced Turkey's strong criticism against the resolution.
Resolution was passed yesterday
The US Senate approved the resolution recognizing the 1915 Armenian incidents as a "genocide" yesterday. Making a statement about the issue earlier today, US Embassy in Ankara has indicated that the US government has not changed its position about the issue and the opinions in question were expressed by US President Donald Trump in April.
Speaking about the 1915 incidents on April 24, US President Donald Trump used the word "Meds Yeghern", which means "Great Crime/Catastrophe". (PT/SD)
