Speaking to the UK-based El Hayat newspaper, the President of Iraq Fuad Masum has stated that his country is fearful of an Afrin operation being repeated in Shingal and called on the military forces of Turkey to leave Bashiqa after the war against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) comes to an end.
Referring to the withdrawal of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) from Shingal, Masum said, "After the withdrawal of PKK, foreign forces cannot come and invade a part of Iraq." Masum has also added that though the PKK has consented to withdrawal, threats are still incoming.
As reported by Rudaw, after expressing his concerns, Masum has stated, "I do not believe [that there will be confrontations]. There are agreements between Baghdad and Ankara to diffuse such tensions." (ŞA/SD)
