The Antalya Bar has been granting the "Uğur Mumcu Special Award" in memory of journalist Uğur Mumcu, who was killed on January 24, 1993, since 2007. This year's award will be given to Hülya Gülbahar, a feminist lawyer who has long been making efforts for the women's movement.
In a statement on the 16th Uğur Mumcu Special Award, the Antalya Bar has stressed that the award has become more meaningful this year for the belief in solidarity and struggle against violence against women.
Gülbahar has also shared the news on social media, saying, "It is a great honor for me. It is especially an honor and responsibility as it is granted for 'belief in solidarity and struggle against violence against women'."
The award was granted for the first time in 2007. It was presented to the family of Mustafa Yücel Özbilgin, a member of the Council of State's 2nd Chamber who was killed in the attack against the Council of State. The award has been granted to various legists since then.
The award-giving ceremony will be held at the Antalya Nazım Hikmet Fair and Congress Center on January 24 at 6 pm.
