Making the inquiries indicated by the Court of Cassation, the Yalvaç High Criminal Court handed down its ruling in 2018 and ruled that Yıldırım should be sentenced to life imprisonment for "wilful killing".
Appeal by the Court of Cassation
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Cassation lodged an appeal in favor of Nevin Yıldırım and expressed the opinion that her prison sentence should be reduced due to unjust provocation.
As reported by Mevlüt Hasgül from Sabah newspaper, the Court of Cassation's General Assembly for Criminal Matters has examined the file and upheld the life sentence given to Nevin Yıldırım.
In the detailed ruling, it has been indicated that there was no unjust action of the victim against the defendant. The ruling has claimed that the defendant and the victim were in a consensual relationship and concluded that it cannot lead to a reduction of her sentence due to unjust provocation.
