According to the news compiled by bianet from local and national newspapers, news websites and news agencies, men killed at least 22 women and raped nine women in October 2021.

In Adana, one woman killed her husband who systematically battered her and exercised her right of self-defense.
Men threatened one woman with "death" in Maraş and Ankara.
The death of one woman in İstanbul was reported in the news as an "unidentified murder."
One woman was allegedly driven to suicide in Iğdır.

2021 – 2020 In the first 10 months of 2021, men killed 256 women, harassed 396 women, abused 160 children, raped 87 women. Men forced at least 586 women to sex work, inflicted violence on and wounded at least 670 women. In the first 10 months of 2021, the deaths of 183 women were reported in the press as "suspicious" while men killed at least 27 children. In the first 10 months of 2021, men killed at least 229 women, harassed 122 women, abused 226 children, raped 79 women. Feminicide
Men killed at least 22 women in October 2021; this number was 23 last October. One of the women killed by men this October was trans. One woman killed by men was a citizen of Kyrgyzstan.

Sexual assault / Rape
Men raped at least nine women in October 2021. This number was seven last October.
One woman was sexually assaulted by wardens and one woman by her son-in-law while the perpetrators of six incidents were not reported in the press. One woman was raped by municipal police officers.
Men raped one woman inside the house, one woman in prison and six women in places outside the house such as a vehicle, workplace and bus.

Harassment
Men harassed at least 280 women in October 2021. This figure was 7 in the same month last year. At least 270 of the incidents of harassment were on social media.
276 women did not know the men who harassed them. Two women were harassed by an actor, one woman was harassed by a doctor, and one woman was harassed by a hospital employee.
Men harassed 270 women verbally and 10 women physically. Men harassed 10 women in places outside the house, such as hospitals, grocery stores and workplaces, and 270 women on social media.

Child abuse
Men abused at last 49 girls and boys in October 2021. This figure was 25 in the same month last year.
At least 19 children were abused by their teachers and study time teachers, eight children were abused by their taekwondo trainer, one child was abused by an imam, one child was abused by a captain, one child was abused by a school employee and one child was abused by their boss.
The degree of acquaintance between nine men and the seven children whom they abused. A man who abused two children was a specialist sergeant.
Men abused two children at home and 47 children in places outside of the house, such as workplaces, boats, schools and streets.

Eight women who were subjected to violence from men were hospitalized in "critical" condition. Men inflicted violence on at least five women by violating protection orders.

Men inflicted violence on nine women because they "wanted to break up did not want to make peace," one woman because she "killed his cat" and "woke him up," and six women because of "jealousy." Men's "excuses" for inflicting violence on 37 women were not reported in the press.

Judicial Process There were 54 perpetrators who inflicted violence on women. Only four perpetrators were arrested. 12 perpetrators were detained. Legal action was initiated against 22 perpetrators. The judicial process regarding one perpetrator was reported as "sought" and one was reported as "escaped." Two perpetrators killed themselves. Forced sex work
Men forced at least 79 women to sex work. This figure was 49 in the same month last year. 62 women who were forced to sex work were not citizens of Turkey. There were also children among those who were forced to sex work.

We do not include any violence cases or crimes that are not gender-based.Throughout the year, we keep track of unidentified murders and suspicious deaths of women in separate monthly tallies but do not add them to the number presented in the headline. At the end of the year, we examine these cases of unidentified murders and suspicious deaths to determine whether the crimes were gender-based. We add the gender-based incidents into the report. We do not include any murders in the reports that are committed by people with psychological disorders (such as murders committed by people with schizophrenia). We include suicide or suicide attempt incidents in the tally only if the woman was subjected to violence/ systematic violence in her past. We cover these suicide incidents in a separate category and do not add suicide cases to the number presented in the headline. In addition, we don't include femicide cases that occur in a mass murder in which the woman was not directly targeted under the condition that the debated incident is not gender based either. Occupations of the offenders only included in the reports when the incident of violence is related to the occupation of the offender. For example, "Woman was murdered at home by his husband, who is a professional soldier." We add the violence committed on children by men, to make the extent of violence visible. |
