The Assembly was in Urfa today within this context. While the Assembly members met the women working in lentil fields, most of the young women working there were students. They said that they work from 5 in the morning to 5 in the evening in 40-degree-Celsius heat for 55 Turkish Lira (TRY) a day, which is approximately 6,4 US dollars or 5,3 Euro.
One of the women said, "I am 20 years old. We are working with a haymaker. We start working at 5 in the morning and work till 5 in the evening. We only have 15-minute breaks during the day. We are three siblings working here. We go to Ordu to work in hazelnut fields, we go to Adıyaman for tobacco farming. Say we fall here... We do not have any security."
Listening to the problems and demands of the women, the HDP Women's Assembly members indicated that they are always in solidarity with the women working in lentil fields. (EMK/SD)
