Aware of the hardships faced by women in Turkey, around the world and in Diyarbakır and willing to raise awareness about these problems, psychologists Duygu Berekatoğlu, Derya Sebuktekin, Dilan Güzel and psychological counsellors Kader Cizreli ve Hayriye Müjde Erçetin have founded the "Women for Women in Initiative" in Diyarbakır.
Working in Turkey's southeastern province, five specialists of psychology have been addressing the stress factors and psychological traumas faced by women during the COVID-19 pandemic. They aim to add social and psychological wellbeing to their difficult lives.
Events on March 6
The Initiative base their works on the necessity to raise women's voices and express their needs more than ever before during the pandemic.
Accordingly, they set out to reinforce the connection among women through a series of channels such as dialogue, training, workshops and different social media platforms. Ahead of March 8 International Women's Day, they will also hold seminars on March 6.
Speaking on behalf of the "Women for Women Initiative", Hayriye Müjde Erçetin summarizes their objectives as follows:
"We believed that we could bring in a fresh touch to the sense of togetherness that women have needed more in the recent period.
"So, we decided to give it a start. In this context, our ultimate aim is to encourage women to come out of their positions as objects stranded in the current system and to become the subjects of their own lives."
Poised to take its first steps in this direction, the Initiative aims to support other women, both financially and psychologically, through the women's solidarity platform that they set up on this occasion.
