Only one out of every 10 software developers are women in Turkey

TalentGrid group has prepared a report regarding the women's representation in Turkey's software industry, shedding light on the ratio of men and women employees and managers in the sector as well as the differences between their expected wages and women's fields of interest. 

According to the report, only one out of every 10 employees in this sector are women and there are almost no women managers.

As reported by the esitlikadaletkadin.org, while 88.2 percent of people working in the software industry in Turkey are men, only 11.8 are women. The report has noted that other countries have similar percentages.

Women find start-ups risky

When it comes to managerial positions, the report has indicated that the gap between the ratio of men and women is much wider.

While 38.4 percent of men express their intention to be a part of early stage or developing start-ups, this rate is 29.7 percent among women. Accordingly, the group has commented that women find start-ups risky.

In the preface to the report, Ecem Korkmaz Gelal, the Founding Partner of TalentGrid, has noted that "contrary to popular belief, women took leading roles in the development of computer programming in history."

Accordingly, she has raised concerns that "while the pioneers of computer programming were mostly women, the current lack of women's representation in computer sciences is a highly critical issue." (EMK/SD)
