Women from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in all 81 provinces of Turkey will file complaints against Abdurrahman Dilipak, a columnist for daily Yeni Akit, over an article where he called those who support the İstanbul Convention "prostitutes."
In response to Dilipak's remarks, AKP Women's Branch Chair Lütfiye Selva Çam said, "Women from the AK Party do politics not by becoming masculine but by standing tall. With their sincerity, humbleness and diligence, they can never be 'daisies' as you said. AK Party women's movement is not a feminist movement," according to the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA).
In the article titled, "The daisies of the AKP," Dilipak called on conservative businesspeople against the "prostitutes" who receive international funds and support the convention.

On the İstanbul Convention, Çam said, "If problems will end after annulling [the convention] then we should annul it. We should annul it so that people see nothing changes."
The İstanbul Convention has been recently a hot topic among pro-government circles. While some have been advocating for Turkey's withdrawal from the convention, some others, including the Parliamentary Speaker and the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM), support it. (EMK/VK)
