Assoc. Prof. M.N.M. from the Faculty of Veterinary of Namık Kemal University in Tekirdağ stood before the judge last week on the allegation that he sexually assaulted his colleague T.Ö. from the same university.
Presenting his statement of defense at the hearing, M.N.M. did not accept the charges. The court ruled that a writ shall be written to the Forensic Medicine Institute to ask the fate of tapes sent to the institution for examination. The next hearing of the academic will be held on June 25.
In the meanwhile, it has been reported that the academic facing the charge of "sexual assault" has been appointed as director to the Malkara Vocational School of Higher Education, which is affiliated with the Namık Kemal University, where both M.N.M. and T.Ö. are working.
As reported by local sources, going to the school in his official vehicle, M.N.M. has taken office. The name of M.N.M. has also been indicated as "Director" on the official website of the school.
Appointment denounced by people of Malkara
Speaking to bianet regarding the issue, an official from the Malkara District Organization of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has stated that "they do not want anyone tried for 'sexual assault' to be in the vocational school" and added that they will be following the process. The official has also said that the people of Malkara do not want M.N.M., either. (EMK/SD)
