The women of Turkey, who say, "Male violence has numerous excuses; we do not have the slightest intention to keep silent or give up our rights", will take to the squares across Turkey on November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The November 25 has been observed as a day against gender-based violence since 1981. As it has also been indicated by the United Nations (UN), "This date was selected to honour the Mirabal sisters, Patria, Minerva and Maria Mirabe, three political activists from the Dominican Republic who were murdered in 1960 by order of the country's ruler, Rafael Trujillo."
The November 25 Women's Platform will organize its night march along the İstiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu, İstanbul on November 25.
With the motto "Male violence has numerous excuses; we do not have the slightest intention to keep silent or give up our rights", women will gather at the Tünel Square and will march to the Galatasaray Square.
"We have never given up our struggle"
Speaking to bianet about the march, Özengül Ergül from the November 25 Women's Platform has stated, "Because we know that it is only and only when we stand together that we can stand against male violence, inequality, poverty, precarity and revoking of our rights. We have never given up our struggle and we do not have the slightest intention to do so."
Inviting all women to the night march, Ergül has said, "We will come together at the Tünel Square in Taksim, Beyoğlu at 5 p.m. on November 25 with the strength that we get from each other."
Rights Association: We are here, we are everywhere
